You don’t have to live in the Lowcountry to start putting down roots here. In fact, most of Allen Patterson Builders’ custom-home clients live out of town. Helping them feel connected, informed, and excited throughout the process is a big part of what we do.

Some clients come to us while they’re still imagining their home. Others already have an architect and plans underway. Wherever you begin, bringing your builder into the conversation early helps keep your vision, material selections, and budget aligned.

A Family From Miami, Already Underway

A family from Miami offers a wonderful example. They were midway through design development with Beaufort-based Allison Ramsey Architects when they brought us onto their team. Before their plans moved into the construction-document phase, they wanted to make sure the home they were designing reflected both their priorities and their investment.

That timing gave us the opportunity to work through meaningful choices together—from siding, roofing, and brick to landscaping—and discuss how each would affect the home’s appearance, performance, and cost. Estimating alongside the design process helped us identify opportunities to simplify certain construction elements and direct more of the budget toward the details that mattered most to the family.

It’s much easier to explore those possibilities while plans are taking shape!

A Collaborative Team, Near and Far

Throughout the process, we joined the family, architect, and designer by phone, on Zoom, and in person. Those conversations created a collaborative team with the clients’ priorities at the center. We especially enjoy working with Bill Harris at Allison Ramsey. His talent, responsiveness, and familiarity with our construction methods and quality standards help translate ideas into thoughtfully coordinated plans.

Staying Organized, Wherever You Are

We also use Buildertrend early in preconstruction to share material information, compare costs, and keep decisions organized. Clients can review options from home, then take a closer look at samples and selections during visits to Beaufort. Clear communication keeps the process moving between trips—and helps everyone understand what’s being decided and why.

A Home Taking Shape

The Miami family’s home is now under construction, bringing that shared planning to life. Their experience illustrates the value of developing the design and budget together: a home shaped around their style, their family, and their priorities.

Whether you’re a few hours away or several states over, building in the Lowcountry should feel personal. At Allen Patterson Builders, we help you feel part of the process long before you’re here to enjoy the porch.
