The Southern Living Showcase Home
The Southern Living Showcase Home is an accessible, multigenerational island cottage in Habersham, a waterfront community in Beaufort, South Carolina. It has been a labor of love for Allen Patterson Builders. Reimagined alongside homeowner and interior designer Dana Bacher, the home was designed so that Dana, her 85-year-old mother, and visiting children and grandchildren can all live comfortably under one roof.
Working with architect Eric Moser of MK Design Group, our team built a home rooted in the timeless character of a traditional Lowcountry cottage while quietly embracing modern comforts and thoughtful accessibility. Features like a main-level primary suite and an elevator connecting both stories make daily life easier across every generation.

We are proud to have built a home that feels rooted in the timeless character of a traditional Lowcountry cottage while quietly embracing the comforts and accessibility that make life easier across every generation.
This home features thoughtful touches like a main-level primary suite and a second primary suite on the upper level to capture the views, connected by an elevator so family members of all ages can move comfortably throughout the space. A scullery keeps prep and cleanup tucked away, while an upstairs kitchenette—lovingly nicknamed the “C&C Lounge” for Coffee and Cocktails—offers a quiet retreat between the bedrooms. Pella Reserve Series windows and generous outdoor spaces make the surrounding marsh feel like an extension of the home, and art-forward details like a Schumacher “Birds of Prey” wallpaper mural nod to the wetland birds of the Lowcountry. Located in the coastal community of Habersham in Beaufort, SC, the Showcase Home bridges timeless Southern architecture and the way families really live today.
